Even before the official assembly time, the trailhead at Laomuzhu Gully brimmed with vitality. Some registered their attendance, others captured fleeting moments on camera, while teammates checked one another’s hiking gear.
And so our early-autumn adventure unfolded amid cheerful laughter. We surrendered our first steps of the day to the embrace of Laoshan (Pukou, Nanjing).
The merriment truly came alive during the pre hike warm up. The team leader guided the group through stretching routines at the front. Some followed each movement with careful attention, while others yielded to light hearted mischief — their playful moments preserved by the camera, met with waves of warm amusement.
We wandered onward, pausing time and again to savour the scenery and take photographs. No rigid pace was set, yet joy flowed without restraint. Some advanced briskly, embracing the physical challenge of the trail; others treated the journey as an outdoor photographic expedition; still others moved forward at a gentle, unrushed cadence.
On steep upward slopes, hands reached out in support. At path intersections came thoughtful directions of “This way”. For those who lagged behind, there was no hurried urging, only the gentle promise: “I will walk with you”. These small, genuine gestures transformed “team spirit” from a mere slogan into living, tangible fellowship.
Upon reaching the summit, we paused for group snapshots. Faces glowed rosy from exertion, and mountain winds tousled our hair freely. Concern for outward appearances faded away; every shutter click resonated with genuine delight.
The award ceremony marked another wonderful highlight of the day. Designed as a relaxed, inclusive activity without grouped competition, it allowed every participant to shine at their own pace. Every attendee received recognition — a sincere tribute to each individual who joined this journey. Whether driven by competitive energy, artistic sensibility, or simple enjoyment of collective company, no member was overlooked.
This Laoshan hike is but one chapter among MIJO’s monthly cultural gatherings. Held each month in diverse forms — wilderness excursions, light hearted competitions, photography sessions and interactive pastimes — our vision, “To live life in vibrant colours alongside like minded people”, is far more than a fine turn of phrase. It finds expression within our everyday working life. Corporate culture is not a slogan hung upon walls; it manifests itself through real, shared experiences. A strong sense of belonging and collective cohesion grows from paths we tread together, and winds we breathe side by side.
One may travel swiftly alone, yet only together can we travel far.
This autumn sojourn across Laoshan has drawn to a fulfilling close. MIJO’s journey of nurturing meaningful team culture continues onward.
In mountains and lakes we behold the beauty of the world, and in shared experience, we come to better know ourselves. We look forward to our next encounter — beside a lakeside, or amid some unexpected, splendid corner of nature.
